The School of American Music is making ambitious plans for the future, but in order to make those plans reality, the school needs additional volunteers. SAM is a not-for-profit organization, and except for its instructors, it relies entirely on unpaid volunteers to manage and staff its activities.
“We teach music. We bring music to young people’s lives. We put on free musical performances. We expand the availability of arts to the community we serve, and we make life better,” SAM President Garth Taylor says. “If those ideals strike a chord with your own volunteer interests, we think you would probably enjoy helping us along. Between operating the organization, maintaining its two facilities and putting on lots of events, we have a role for everyone. Plus, we’re nice people and fun to work with.”
Volunteer opportunities range from helping out at SAM events to handling administrative and technical support to producing SAM-sponsored shows. According to Taylor, “Whatever your talent or area of expertise, we can probably use your help.”
