A Treat for Halloween

The School of American Music presents “The Romantic Violin” on Oct. 30

International violinist and conductor Kunito Nishitani will star in an afternoon of “The Romantic Violin” on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022, at 2 PM ET at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator, 14280 Red Arrow Hwy, Harbert, Mich. Presented by the School of American Music, the program will showcase Europe’s Romantic Period of Music which burgeoned in the second half of the 19th century.

In a special treat, Nishitani will be accompanied on piano by world-famous composer and professor at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, Rudolf Haken, in a program spanning Violin Concerto No. 3 by Camille Saint-Saëns, Violin Concerto by Max Bruch, and Csárdás by Vittorio Monti. Kunito Nishitani has founded a school and two orchestras in Japan, served on the faculty of universities ranging from New York University to Portland State University to Ikebukuro Community College outside Tokyo. He has served as concertmaster of orchestras in the US and Japan and appeared as a soloist in both countries. Nishitani has released six CDs.

 Rudolf Haken is legendary for his creative melding of disparate musical styles and genres. He concertizes and teaches regularly on four continents, frequently performing his own concertos on his six-string Wood Viper electric and five-string Rivinus Pellegrina acoustic violas.
