Elin Boklund has joined the faculty of the School of American Music as a saxophone instructor. Boklund grew up in La Porte, Ind. and attended La Porte High School, where she was in every band the school offered. After graduating from high school in 2014, she moved to Chicago and attended VanderCook College of Music. There, she was given the daunting task of learning to play 19 instruments and how to teach those instruments as part of her education classes.
While attending VanderCook, she took advantage of performance opportunities at many popular Chicago-area venues including Fitzgerald’s, Soldier Field and The Midwest Clinic. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and got her teaching license in 2018. Boklund subsequently moved back to La Porte and began her teaching career at John Young Middle School in Mishawaka, Ind. She has been a member of the La Porte City Band for the last five years and a member the Down by the Dock Jazz Band for the last eight. Borklund is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Music Education.
